I watched a Superman movie recently, and one detail really stuck with me: how Superman draws his power from Earth’s yellow sun, unlike the red sun of Krypton. That little sci-fi flourish sent my writer brain spiraling. If the source of a superhero’s powers could shift across star systems, what about a werewolf’s? What if a lycanthrope left Earth altogether? Would they change under alien moons? Would they shift at all? Would the lack of a moon suppress their nature, or awaken something entirely different?
That curiosity sent me down a delightful rabbit hole of orbital mechanics, moon phases, and planetary quirks. I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit mapping how various moons across the solar system might affect a werewolf’s transformation cycle.
On Mercury: No moons. No transformation. Just vibes.
On Mars: Two tiny moons, Phobos and Deimos. Would you change twice as often, or just feel constantly off-kilter?
On Jupiter: Over 90 moons. That’s enough lunar chaos to fry your nervous system. You’d never be fully human, or fully wolf. It’s a howling mess… and I’m kind of obsessed.
And then there’s Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon and bigger than Mercury itself. Imagine Luna standing on its icy surface, staring up at the sky, not at a moon, but at a planet so massive it dominates the heavens. Jupiter wouldn’t just reflect light; it would radiate influence.
In that scenario, Jupiter becomes the moon. Its sheer gravitational presence would tug at more than just tides. Would Luna feel drawn into orbit, not just physically but spiritually? Would her shifts align with the god-planet’s pull rather than with any orbiting satellite? Under a Leviathan Moon like Jupiter, Luna wouldn’t just change. She might evolve.
The more I explored, the more I realized Luna has already faced a moonless world. In Book Four, Lycan Legacy – Princess, she travels to the Fae realm. A realm with no moon. No guiding light. No magical rhythms to stabilize her shifting.
If you’re curious how Luna handles a world without a moon, you don’t need a spaceship. Just a Kindle (or the free Kindle app) and a little courage. Lycan Legacy – Princess is waiting for you.
And as for the werewolf astronaut story? Let’s just say the stars are aligning.
Until next time, keep your eyes on the sky, and your claws sharpened.
With lunar love and cosmic chaos,
Veronica
